About DRC Uganda
DRC Uganda works to protect and empower displaced and vulnerable communities. We are currently seeking a dedicated, experienced, and compassionate Protection Assistant – Child Protection to join our dynamic team in Rhino Camp. This position will support all child protection prevention and response activities, including case management, training, awareness-raising, and community engagement.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain field-level relationships with agencies, community structures, and DRC sectors.
Represent DRC in relevant child protection coordination meetings and sector forums.
Strengthen referral networks and service coordination for vulnerable children.
Support the design and implementation of community-based child protection initiatives.
Case Management & Child Protection Services
Provide case management support for children at risk, including UASC and vulnerable cases of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Conduct Best Interest Assessments (BIAs) and Best Interest Determinations (BIDs).
Identify, document, and refer children to appropriate services using ProGres V4.
Support alternative care arrangements including foster placements and family assessments.
Train and mentor foster caregivers and para-social workers on child rights, protection, and parenting.
Conduct regular home visits and follow-ups to monitor child well-being and support systems.
Community Mobilization & Capacity Building
Facilitate child protection awareness activities with caregivers, adolescents, and community members.
Support the formation of adolescent groups to enhance engagement and community ownership.
Train para-social workers, parents, and children on key child protection themes.
Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
Contribute to the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of child protection interventions.
Support timely and quality reporting, including weekly and monthly activity reports.
Document project outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned.
Logistics & Financial Compliance
Coordinate field travel and logistics in accordance with DRC procedures.
Assist with budget monitoring and ensure compliance with donor and DRC financial and procurement guidelines.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required:
University degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in child protection or related protection work with an NGO.
Training in Best Interest Procedures (BIP), case management, and community-based child protection.
Experience using ProGres V4 CP module.
Ability to ride a motorcycle.
Familiarity with refugee contexts, especially South Sudanese and Congolese populations.
Desirable:
Fluency in local languages spoken by refugee communities.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
