About Organisation:
The Government of Uganda (GoU) through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA) and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), with support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is implementing a five (5)-year Kidepo Landscape Integrated Conservation and Development Project (KLICDP) under the Eighth cycle of the Global Environment Facility (GEF-8). The Project aims to contribute to sustainable management and conservation of biodiversity and enhanced socio-economic development in the Kidepo Landscape. The Project focuses on combating wildlife poaching, illegal trade and trafficking; minimizing human-wildlife conflicts; improving livelihoods of the people; and enhancing biodiversity conservation and management within the target landscape.
The Ministry is in the process of establishing a Project Management Unit by filling various positions to facilitate effective and efficient implementation of the project. It’s against this background that the Ministry seeks to attract competent Ugandans to fill the various vacant positions indicated below.
Job Summary:
The primary objective of the Project Officer: Gender and Social Safeguards is to support the project in promoting gender equality and women empowerment. Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Project Officer: Gender and Social Safeguards is responsible for day-to-day implementation of project activities on mainstreaming gender issues into project activities and promoting gender equality and youth/women empowerment and respect for human rights, ensuring total social inclusion.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Mainstreaming social & gender issues at all stages of the project cycle, from planning to monitoring and evaluation;
Developing indicators to monitor the social & gender impact of project supported activities using the Gender Marker System;
Assessing the potential social & gender impact of proposed projects activities, and propose mitigation measures;
Working with other Project Officers to develop innovative approaches to social & gender standalone activities;
Preparing and maintaining project output-level Gender profiles;
Liaising with key social & gender-related NGOs, national and regional institutions and any relevant stakeholders of the project for purposes of partnerships, information sharing, networking and potential operational collaborations;
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in either Social Science, Development Studies, Social Work and Social Administration, or in the relevant field of Gender Studies or Community Education from a recognized University/Institution.
A postgraduate qualification in the relevant field of Gender Studies or Social Science or Development studies is an added advantage.
Experience
At least three (3) years of professional experience on gender and social inclusion in the development space from a reputable organisation.
Knowledge and skills
Demonstrated experience in community or private sector development,
entrepreneurship and support to women SMEs;
Demonstrated and strong communication and organization skills, dealing with various stakeholders with different backgrounds and capacity to perform in complex situations;
Ability to build effective working relationships in a diverse multicultural
environment;
Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) in English, with a good working knowledge of the local language;
Computer Literacy.

Willingness to work long hours voluntarily when necessary.
Ability to gather and analyze information effectively.
Capability to work both independently.
Strong interpersonal relations skills,
Team player.
