Reports to: Head of Broadcasting
Job Summary:
The Programme Controller (PC) is responsible for the creative, strategic, and operational leadership of KFM’s on-air and digital content. The role ensures that all programmes, presenters, and producers deliver a consistent, modern, youth-driven sound that aligns with KFM’s brand identity and commercial goals.
The PC will lead content development, talent performance, show planning, and cross-department collaboration to grow audience share, improve execution discipline, and support revenue generation and digital growth.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
On-Air Talent & Production Management
Supervise presenters and producers
Ensure all talent is well-prepared, disciplined, and aligned to KFM’s brand
Lead daily pre-show briefs and weekly team check-ins
Content Oversight
Monitor all live and pre-recorded content for quality and consistency
Ensure all shows reflect KFM’s tone, target audience, and urban youth positioning
Approve show rundowns, topics, and creative direction
Air Checks & Performance Reviews
Conduct weekly air checks
Provide structured feedback to improve delivery
Enforce on-air standards and compliance
Track presenter performance against KPIs
Editorial & Creative Direction
Develop and refine show formats
Introduce new creative segments and innovative content ideas
Lead content brainstorming sessions with presenters & producers
Digital Integration
Ensure every show has a digital extension (clips, reels, live hits, podcast cues)
Work with the digital team to drive measurable online engagement
Approve digital plans for each show daily/weekly
Scheduling & Show Planning
Build and maintain weekly/monthly programming grids
Balance talk, entertainment, news, ads and digital cues across all shows
Plan special content, campaigns, and theme weeks
Commercial & Sales Alignment
Co-create commercial features and branded integrations
Attend Sales briefs and support pitch development
Ensure shows offer sellable content and opportunities
Track commercial delivery per show
Training & Talent Development
Mentor presenters to improve craft, storytelling, and energy
Identify talent weaknesses and design improvement paths
Develop new talent for future slot upgrades
Audience Insights & Competitor Tracking
Review audience data, listener behavior, and ratings
Track competitor shows for improvement opportunities
Adjust content strategy based on insights
Crisis & Reputation Management
Act immediately on on-air errors, content breaches or complaints
Ensure consistent compliance with editorial and regulatory standards
Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with Sales, Digital, Marketing & Technical teams
Lead cross-department coordination for campaigns and activations
Foster positive team culture and accountability
Technical & Production Coordination
Ensure show elements (intros, sweepers, promos) are delivered on time
Work with production & technical teams to maintain broadcast quality
Approve production requests and station sound elements
Reporting & Accountability
Submit weekly programming reports
Deliver monthly performance scorecards
Monitor show impact, discipline and execution
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Media, Journalism, Communication, or a related field
Experience: Minimum 6 years of Experience in a similar role within the broadcasting industry.
A passion for radio, entertainment, and audience engagement.
Core Competences:
Proven experience in radio programming, broadcasting, or a similar role.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent understanding of audience engagement and content curation.
Ability to critique and develop talent effectively.
Deep knowledge of music trends and station format alignment.
Familiarity with broadcasting regulations and compliance standards.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Has proficiency in the English language (Can read and write)
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Proficiency in radio automation and scheduling software.
