Protection Team Leader – Imvepi Job at Danish Refugee Council (DRC)

Job Description

DRC Uganda is currently looking for highly qualified and motivated individuals to join our dynamic team as Protection Team Leader.

The overall purpose of the role:

The Protection Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and quality implementation of protection activities at the field level. This position holder will ensure the provision of high-quality, safe, and accountable protection services that adhere to humanitarian principles, organizational policies, and donor requirements, while placing a significant emphasis on protection mainstreaming, safeguarding, and the centrality of protection.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Coordination and representation

  • Maintain effective working relationships with donors, government authorities, UN agencies, international and local NGOs as required.
  • Represent DRC and actively participate in the local Protection Sector and relevant sub-sectors working groups, including settlement coordination meetings.
  • Closely coordinate project implementation with UNHCR, OPM, district and other local and International NGOs, including coordinating joint assessments, protection gap analysis, advocacy , and referral mechanism strengthening at the settlement Level.
  • Project development and implementation
  • Responsible for the development of project activity work plans, procurement plans, budgets tracking at the field level under the supervision of the protection Manager and in coordination with the Country Protection Manager, the Programme Quality and Development Manager, and the M&E Officer.
  • Provide technical support to the team, and link DRC Programme to relevant protection standards, protection mainstreaming, and ensure a rights-based approach to all programming at the settlement level.
  • Work closely with the Protection Manager to maximize program output and impact.
  • Coordinate planning, implementation, monitoring , and evaluation of protection- related projects in Imvepi.
  • Make sure that projects adhere to protection standards and principles as well as DRC guidelines and accountability standards.
  • Oversee protection case management processes and ensure adherence to SOPs and referral pathways.
  • Ensure accurate case documentation and data protection practices.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategy based on assessment of protection situation and risks.
  • Track activity progress against indicators and workplans.

Staff development and management

  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership for the protection staff in Imvepi settlement.
  • Develop staff performance measurement and targets and appraise them based on the targets set.
  • Conduct periodic field visits to support field staffs through technical back stopping and ensure compliance to program quality, implementation and reporting.
  • Identify protection staff capacity gaps and support on-the-job training and ongoing performance management.
  • Foster a positive, ethical, and safeguarding-compliant working environment.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, case review, and technical coaching session to ensure compliance to protection standards and quality implementation.
  • Uphold DRC’s code of conduct, Values, and principles of accountability.

Logistics /Finance

  • Monitor financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-ups.
  • Liaise with DRC Administration, Logistics, Finance Departments, and the Protection Manager to ensure smooth operation of the field activities.

Others

  • Manage and oversee all protection projects in Imvepi; develop and maintain implementation and procurement plans for all projects with support from the protection manager.
  • In collaboration with the Protection Manager, prepare quality and timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Ensuring effective implementation of M&E systems throughout the lifetime of the project.
  • Manage the project budget; oversee all budget expenditures and ensure they are allowable and allocable according to donor regulations; review monthly Budget Follow Up (BFU) and implementation tracking tool and collaborate with the Finance department to ensure accurate expenditures and reporting.
  • Actively participate and prepare all documents in advance of the BFU and implementation tracking meetings.
