Job Description
To support effective implementation of this project, CEFORD invites applications from qualified and motivated candidates to fill the following positions:
Job Summary
The Nutrition Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP), care group approach, and nutrition-sensitive interventions across Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement and surrounding host communities, in line with Ministry of Health Uganda IMAM and MIYCAN guidelines.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Technical Support
- Work closely with health workers, Village Health Teams (VHTs), and lead mothers to ensure early identification, referral, and management of acute malnutrition among children under five years and pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls, in line with MoH IMAM guidelines
- Enroll eligible beneficiaries into the nutrition programme and conduct nutrition status assessments at health facilities and during integrated health outreaches using standard anthropometric tools
- Conduct home visits for follow-up of TSFP clients and discharged beneficiaries to ensure adherence to nutrition advice and sustained recovery
- Support health workers during integrated outreaches in identification, management, and referral of acute malnutrition cases
- Ensure functionality and effective operation of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) corners at supported health facilities
- Oversee proper management, handling, storage, and accountability of food and nutrition supplies
- Participate in the development, review, and dissemination of IEC materials on IMAM, MIYCAN, and IYCF
- Facilitate nutrition and health education sessions focusing on Essential Nutrition Actions, Infant and Young Child Feeding practices, and prevention of hygiene-related diseases
- Support effective implementation of the care group approach and behaviour change promotion within communities
- Uphold high standards of integrity, ethics, and professionalism in line with CEFORD’s Code of Conduct
2. Capacity Building
- Support health facilities and VHTs with appropriate equipment, reporting tools, and logistics for effective nutrition screening, management, and referral
- Build capacity of health workers, VHTs, and care group volunteers in nutrition screening, early case detection, referral pathways, and reporting
- Support the functionality of care groups and ensure volunteers are equipped with training materials and tools for routine activities, including modular training and home visits
- Facilitate capacity-building activities such as mentorships, CMEs, and trainings for health workers and VHTs on IMAM protocols and guidelines
- Support mentorship of health workers and district health teams on MIYCAN, IYCF corner operations, and WASH integration
- Build capacity of TSFP clients and caregivers in household-level management of acute malnutrition
3. Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting
- Participate in beneficiary identification and updating of beneficiary records, particularly for pregnant and breastfeeding women and caregivers of children aged 0–23 months
- Participate in periodic nutrition screening to assess Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) levels in the community
- Oversee collection, handling, analysis, and reporting of nutrition data related to screening, follow-up, and NFIs in line with MoH guidelines and HMIS tools
- Prepare high-quality weekly and monthly nutrition reports in accordance with CEFORD and donor reporting requirements
- Participate in project assessments, surveys, reviews, and studies
- Organize and facilitate monthly review meetings with VHTs and care group volunteers and ensure timely submission of community-based reports
- Supervise VHTs and care group volunteers to ensure effective performance and accountability
- Identify capacity gaps among health workers and community volunteers and recommend appropriate training interventions
4. Coordination, Representation and Community Engagement
- Mobilize communities and local leaders to actively participate in project activities and facilitate regular community dialogue meetings for programme improvement
- Participate in internal and external coordination meetings as guided by the Nutrition Coordinator
- Attend inter-agency coordination meetings and field visits as required
- Coordinate with other CEFORD departments and implementing partners within the settlement
- Represent the project in relevant local forums and contribute to knowledge-sharing platforms
