Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Manager plays a vital role in shaping the public image and customer engagement strategy of JW Marriott Kampala. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this position is responsible for creating, executing, and managing all property-level marketing initiatives—across traditional, digital, and social platforms.
This role focuses particularly on Food & Beverage (F&B) promotions, targeting both hotel guests and the local market, while supporting overall brand awareness, guest engagement, and revenue growth. The manager will also liaise with regional and cluster marketing teams to ensure strategic alignment and optimized campaign execution.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Execution
Develop and implement the annual marketing plan in line with hotel goals and budget.
Collaborate with Sales, F&B, Operations, and Revenue teams to activate promotional campaigns that drive occupancy and revenue.
Coordinate with advertising agencies to deliver compelling media campaigns, especially around F&B.
Partner with Revenue Management to ensure accurate offer loading and targeted promotions across platforms.
Oversee execution of display advertising, email marketing, and local marketing initiatives.
Digital & Social Media Management
Manage hotel presence across local digital channels and social media platforms.
Create and execute engaging campaigns for F&B, rooms, weddings, spa, and events.
Lead online reputation efforts, responding to guest feedback and managing reviews.
Work closely with the cluster eCommerce team to ensure alignment on content and digital strategies.
Public Relations & Media Engagement
Develop quarterly PR plans and oversee their execution in collaboration with agency partners.
Maintain media contact lists and build relationships with key journalists, bloggers, and influencers.
Write and distribute press releases for events, promotions, and hotel news.
Coordinate and manage media events, press visits, and promotional partnerships.
Handle photography and visual asset creation for use in PR, social, and advertising.
Collateral & Brand Management
Ensure production and maintenance of all marketing and promotional materials.
Oversee signage and visual branding across public areas.
Ensure all printed and digital assets meet Marriott brand standards.
Monitor and collect competitor marketing materials for benchmarking and strategy refinement.
General Responsibilities
Support development of property newsletters and internal communications.
Assist in planning and execution of hotel events and seasonal promotions.
Coordinate with eCommerce and Revenue Management to evaluate marketing effectiveness and ROI.
Stay informed about evolving digital trends and competitor activities.
Provide marketing support and training to internal stakeholders as needed.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Experience
Required:
2-year degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field with 4 years’ experience in marketing, digital media, or a similar role.OR
4-year bachelor's degree in Marketing, PR, or Business with 2 years’ professional experience in marketing, digital advertising, or hospitality marketing.
Preferred:
Background in hotel marketing or experience working in a digital advertising agency environment.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of hospitality marketing strategies and digital media.
Excellent writing, content creation, and storytelling skills.
Skilled in brand voice application across multiple channels.
Experience managing social media platforms and PR campaigns.
Strong collaboration and cross-functional communication skills.
Results-driven with a keen eye for detail and quality execution.
Proficient in marketing software, email platforms, and CMS systems.
