About the Role
Bayobab Uganda (a division of MTN Uganda) is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Manager – Sales & Commercial to drive the development and growth of its wholesale fixed connectivity business. The successful candidate will lead efforts to commercialize Bayobab’s national and international fiber infrastructure, building and managing strategic partnerships with carriers, ISPs, mobile operators, and OTTs.
This is a high-impact leadership role within a team of technical, commercial, and management professionals tasked with expanding Bayobab Uganda’s footprint across domestic and international markets.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Sales & Business Development
Define and execute market strategies to drive wholesale capacity sales, improve unit economics, and align with global industry best practices.
Lead the development of wholesale value propositions, targeting strategic segments with tailored products, services, and go-to-market approaches.
Identify, pursue, and close strategic sales opportunities with carriers, operators, connectivity providers, and OTT players.
Client & Partner Relationship Management
Maintain and strengthen relationships with key clients, providing high-level support and strategic guidance.
Engage in high-profile negotiations and manage escalations for key accounts when necessary.
Represent Bayobab Uganda at industry events and forums to enhance brand visibility and thought leadership in the fixed connectivity space.
Performance Management & Reporting
Monitor sales performance, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed revenue targets.
Develop and maintain robust sales pipelines, market analysis, and reporting for internal stakeholders.
Provide input for financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Work with solution engineers and other internal teams to align client infrastructure needs with available network capacity.
Collaborate with Bayobab Group teams to deliver on joint initiatives and regional opportunities.
Role Deliverables
Wholesale sales strategy, pipeline development, and account planning.
Achievement of sales and revenue targets for Bayobab Uganda’s fixed wholesale business.
Market and sales reporting for domestic and international wholesale services.
Budgetary inputs and commercial planning.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
A Master’s degree or Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration is an added advantage.
Fluency in English and Swahili is required.
Experience
Minimum of 8+ years of sales experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry with a focus on wholesale/carrier and fixed-line business.
At least 4 years of managerial experience in a sales or wholesale function, ideally within telecom or technology sectors.
Key Competencies
Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach and manage diverse teams.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to manage multiple high-value accounts and prioritize effectively.
Deep understanding of fixed connectivity markets, trends, and commercial frameworks.
High-level computer proficiency and business reporting capabilities.
