About the Organisation
Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) emerged from the Mulago-Mbarara Teaching Hospitals Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) which was established in November 2004 under the then Makerere University Faculty of Medicine. With funding from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and technical assistance from the United States of America Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), MJAP established a strong trail in the provision of quality comprehensive HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) services.
Overtime, MJAP has broadened its work beyond the support of provision of comprehensive HIV and TB services to include capacity strengthening for health care workers across Uganda and conduct of research to inform policies for HIV/TB and other HIV comorbidities in the country.
Currently, the flourishing institution plays a pivotal role in the Uganda health care system having developed strong links with the Ministry of Health through its contribution to various technical working groups and long term support of HIV/TB services in districts, regional referral hospitals and public health facilities across the various regions in the country.

Job Description
The USAID Local Partner Health Service Project East Central (LPHS-EC) is a project of Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) funded by USAID. MJAP's Mission is to build partnerships and strengthen Health Systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB and other diseases of public health importance in Africa. Project overview:
MJÁP was granted the PEPFAR funding Award for the USAID Local Partner Health Services in the East Central Uganda. Under this activity, MJAP supports public health facilities and their communities in 12 districts that include Bugiri, Bugweri Busia, Buyende, Iganga, Jinja, Kamuli, Kaliro, Luuka, Mayuge, Namayingo and Namutumba: to implement quality Integrated HIV/AIDS and TB services and contribute to the attainment and sustenance of epidemic control. MJAP is looking for competent, passionate, and committed individuals to fill the following positions:
3. Locum Stores Assistant (1)

Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory Management: Assist in receiving, storing, and organizing incoming inventory, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
Order Processing: Assist in processing orders, including picking, packing, and preparing items for shipment or distribution.
Stock Control: Monitor stock levels, conduct regular stock counts, and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate inventory records.
Goods Receipt and Dispatch: Receive goods from suppliers, verify quantities and specifications, and prepare outgoing shipments for delivery or collection.
Data Entry: Input inventory transactions, stock movements, and other relevant data into computerized inventory management systems or spreadsheets.
Quality Control: Inspect incoming goods for damage or defects, report issues to supervisors, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
Housekeeping: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the store or warehouse, including shelving, storage areas, and workspaces.
Health and Safety: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper handling of hazardous materials, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe operation of equipment.
Customer Service: Provide assistance to internal customers (e.g., colleagues from other departments) and external customers (e.g., suppliers, delivery personnel) as needed.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inventory movements, receipts, and dispatches, including packing lists, delivery notes, and stock transfer forms.
Reporting: Assist in generating reports on inventory levels, stock movements, and other relevant metrics to support decision-making processes.
Qualifications and Competencies
Attention to Detail: Ability to perform tasks accurately and meticulously, with a focus on maintaining precise inventory records and ensuring product quality.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Organizational Skills: Capacity to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Numerical Skills: Basic mathematical aptitude to perform calculations related to inventory quantities, stock movements, and order processing.
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using inventory management software, Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word), and other relevant computer programs.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, carrying, and moving heavy or bulky items, as well as standing or walking for extended periods.
Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the stores department and other departments to achieve common goals.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, work schedules, and procedures as needed to meet operational requirements.
Reliability: Demonstrate punctuality, dependability, and a strong work ethic in fulfilling assigned duties and responsibilities.
Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
Previous Experience: While not always required, previous experience in a stores, warehouse, or logistics environment may be beneficial for this role.
