Job Description
The role involves formulating tactical plans for merchant strategy rollout, managing merchant recruitment and performance, and ensuring compliance through proper due diligence. The Lead Merchant Portfolio will identify new opportunities for merchant acquisition, pitch value propositions to potential partners, and oversee the onboarding process. They will also be responsible for setting targets, monitoring partner performance, ensuring merchant outlets remain active, and preparing timely performance reports. Additionally, the role includes managing third-party partners, ensuring merchant visibility, and leading a team to meet sales and business growth objectives.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Formulate and execute tactical plans for the merchant strategy with clear delivery schedules.
Drive expansion of the merchant ecosystem by identifying opportunities and addressing gaps.
Set targets for merchant recruitment for in-house teams and third-party acquirers.
Recruit, onboard, and ensure activation of new merchants across the country.
Identify potential high-value prospects, pitch value propositions, and oversee screening and onboarding.
Conduct KYC due diligence and ensure compliance before merchant tie-ups.
Maintain relationships with merchants and third-party partners to ensure business efficiency.
Monitor and review third-party partner performance periodically.
Establish and communicate clear sales objectives and profit goals for partners.
Provide timely performance tracking and reporting to partners and merchants.
Ensure visibility of merchant outlets and compliance with Airtel standards.
Lead, mentor, and manage the merchant portfolio team to achieve targets.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies or related field.
At least 5 years’ experience in business development/sales, preferably in FMCG.
Experience in third-party partner management is an added advantage.
Strong understanding of sales, distribution channels, and market dynamics.
Proven skills in channel development and business growth.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Strong business development and negotiation skills.
Ability to work effectively in teams and coach others.
