Job Description
The Lay Patient Navigator plays a key role in helping patients navigate the healthcare system at AIC Kijabe Hospital. This includes assisting with appointment scheduling, coordinating care, addressing barriers to treatment, and providing emotional and logistical support. The role is essential in enhancing patient advocacy, promoting adherence to medical plans, and improving access to care through informed guidance and personalized service.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist patients in understanding their diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up requirements
Support scheduling and coordination of patient appointments and services
Identify and address barriers to care such as transport, financial issues, or health literacy
Act as a liaison between the patient, medical team, and hospital services
Provide education, advocacy, and emotional support to patients and their families
Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and care pathways
Participate in outreach and community engagement activities
Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Diploma in Business Administration or a related field
Training in patient advocacy or navigation is an added advantage
Experience:
Previous experience in healthcare settings or community outreach is preferred

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compassionate and patient-centered attitude
Ability to coordinate and multitask effectively
Familiarity with healthcare systems and patient rights
