Job Description
The intern will support the implementation of ongoing water and sanitation projects within the Water and Sanitation Unit. Tasks include contributing to progress reports, conducting research on sectoral issues and trends, assisting in field missions, drafting analytical materials, and supporting knowledge sharing events such as webinars and workshops. The intern will also contribute to proposal writing and resource mobilization. The internship is full-time and unpaid, and will take place in-person in Nairobi, Kenya. Interns must cover their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support the implementation of water and sanitation projects
Draft and review project progress reports
Conduct desk research on sector trends, including climate change and gender equity in water and sanitation
Draft background papers, reports, and input to publications
Participate in field missions to monitor project progress
Assist in planning and organizing online and in-person workshops/webinars
Support proposal writing and donor engagement
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Must be enrolled in or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. programme in a relevant field
Preferred fields: Sustainable Development, Civil/Water/Sanitation/Public Health Engineering, Urban Infrastructure Planning, Environmental Studies, Education, or related disciplines
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite
Strong interest in the work of the United Nations
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Knowledge of water and sanitation issues required
Fluency in English required; knowledge of another UN language is an asset
