Job Description
The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for collecting, preparing, and processing patient samples for a wide range of laboratory tests. The role requires operating and maintaining lab equipment, ensuring quality control standards, managing inventory, and accurately recording results in the Electronic Medical Records system. The successful candidate will ensure all diagnostic procedures meet quality and safety standards and contribute to the delivery of efficient, timely, and patient-centered laboratory services.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Collect, prepare, and process samples according to standard procedures
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance
Participate in regular quality control procedures to maintain test accuracy
Monitor stock levels, place monthly orders, and ensure proper storage of supplies
Record and interpret test results accurately in Electronic Medical Records
Prepare detailed reports of test results and findings
Collaborate effectively with colleagues to foster a team-oriented work environment
Maintain a high standard of patient care and interaction
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Diploma, Higher Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science
Valid registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB)
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a busy laboratory environment
Competencies:
Proficient in a wide range of lab services, especially hematology
Excellent patient interaction and communication skills
Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
Keen attention to detail and high level of accuracy in test reporting
