Job Description
The Head of Risk & Compliance will be responsible for developing and implementing country-wide risk management frameworks, establishing compliance structures, and fostering a strong risk culture within the organization. The role involves overseeing operational, credit, liquidity, and market risks, as well as anti-money laundering controls, information security, and regulatory compliance. The incumbent will serve as a key member of the Country Management Team (CMC) and will contribute to strategic and operational decisions by providing independent, objective risk analysis. The position also requires close collaboration with regulators, government authorities, and stakeholders while leading risk governance and compliance activities across the institution.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a country-wide risk management framework aligned with group policies.
Define risk appetite and establish controls, compliance policies, and assessment methods.
Oversee enterprise-wide risk management, including operational, credit, market, and compliance risks.
Manage Anti-Money Laundering/Financing controls across business areas.
Identify, measure, monitor, and report on emerging and existing risks.
Maintain and update corporate risk policies, including credit, compliance, security, and business continuity planning.
Provide independent risk analyses to support strategic and operational decisions.
Ensure line managers take direct ownership of critical risks.
Collaborate with regulators and government authorities to ensure compliance.
Supervise a risk and compliance team, building capacity and embedding a strong risk culture.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Risk Management, Business Administration, or Law.
Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional certifications in Risk Management (CIRM, CRCM, ICM, or equivalent) preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in risk management within the financial/banking sector.
At least 3 years in a senior management role.
Proven expertise in credit risk, portfolio risk management, IFRS9 classification, and ECL modeling.
Experience in enterprise risk management frameworks, compliance, and governance.
Strong background in working with regulators and government authorities.
Competencies
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Strong understanding of operational, credit, liquidity, and market risks.
Ability to supervise multiple projects and work across cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
High ethical standards and integrity.
