Having completed the construction of a ship, the M/v Mpungu for Lake Victoria, Grindrod Logistics Africa Uganda seeks to recruit skilled, experienced and motivated persons to work in Port Bell and Luzira.

  • Traffic Control: Control the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic through construction work zones using hand signals, flags, signs, or signal paddles.

  • Safety Setup: Assist in the setup and removal of traffic control devices, such as cones, barricades, and signs, to establish safe work zones and guide motorists safely through construction areas.

  • Communication: Communicate effectively with construction crews, equipment operators, and other flagging personnel to coordinate traffic movements and ensure the safety of workers and the public.

  • Signal Interpretation: Interpret signals from construction crews and equipment operators to determine when it is safe to allow traffic to proceed through work zones.

  • Traffic Direction: Direct motorists to alternate routes or detours as needed and provide information on road conditions, construction activities, and potential delays.

  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies or incidents within work zones, such as accidents or medical emergencies, by coordinating with emergency services and assisting as directed.

  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor traffic for compliance with posted speed limits, lane closures, and other traffic control measures. Take appropriate action to address violations and maintain safety.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and inspect flagging equipment, such as flags, signs, and signal paddles, to ensure proper functioning and visibility.

  • Documentation: Complete necessary paperwork, such as daily activity logs or incident reports, to document traffic control activities and any incidents or issues that arise.

  • Training and Compliance: Stay informed about flagging procedures, safety regulations, and industry best practices through training and continuing education. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

  • Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional assistance to motorists, pedestrians, and other members of the public. Address inquiries or concerns in a helpful and respectful manner.

  • Adherence to Policies: Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines at all times. Follow established protocols for flagging operations and traffic control.

  • Adaptability: Adapt to changing traffic conditions, weather conditions, or work requirements as needed. Remain flexible and responsive to ensure the efficient and safe movement of traffic.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Be prepared to respond to unexpected situations or emergencies, such as inclement weather, equipment malfunctions, or accidents, by following established protocols and procedures.

  • Team Support: Provide support to other members of the flagging crew and construction team as needed. Assist with additional tasks or duties to ensure the overall success of the project.

  • Attention to Detail: Flagmen must pay close attention to detail to accurately interpret signals from construction crews and safely direct traffic through work zones.

  • Manual Dexterity: Some flagging tasks may involve the use of hand-held flags, signs, or signal paddles, requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

  • Safety Awareness: A strong commitment to safety is paramount. Flagmen must be vigilant and proactive in identifying potential hazards and taking appropriate precautions to prevent accidents.

  • Traffic Laws and Regulations: Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations is essential for ensuring compliance and maintaining traffic flow while work is being conducted in the vicinity.

  • Teamwork: Flagmen often work closely with construction crews, supervisors, and other flagging personnel. The ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team is important.
