Job Description
This role involves designing machine layouts and automation systems with a strong focus on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and ergonomic regulations. The Factory Automation Engineer will lead automation-related CAPEX projects from conception through to implementation, manage vendors and contractors, and ensure integration with existing infrastructure. The position also includes preparing system documentation, training users, researching and testing new automation technologies, and working cross-functionally to implement best practices across departments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Design factory automation systems and ensure ergonomic and safety compliance
Lead and manage automation aspects of CAPEX projects
Select and manage suppliers and contractors for automation projects
Integrate robotic and automation systems with existing production infrastructure
Optimize existing automated systems for efficiency and scalability
Prepare technical documentation and user manuals for new systems
Train operators on new automation technologies and systems
Collaborate with quality, maintenance, safety, and manufacturing teams
Research new technologies and implement modern automation solutions
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, or Process Control
Specific Knowledge:
Electrical installation and electrical machinery regulations (OHS Act)
Automated packaging machine experience
Mechanical and electrical engineering principles
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years in a Factory Automation or similar role
Personal Competencies:
Excellent execution and continuous improvement mindset
Strategic thinking and adaptability to change
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Self-motivated and capable of working under pressure
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong attention to detail
