Job Description
The Explosives Operator Grade 2 will operate in a mining environment, supporting the Explosives Controller with daily operational duties including MMU plant loading, unloading of raw materials, cleaning and maintenance tasks, and site safety procedures. Responsibilities include monitoring and reporting abnormal conditions, maintaining housekeeping standards, assisting with stock control, ensuring correct PPE usage, and complying with safety and emergency protocols. This role requires strong adherence to mine health and safety standards and the ability to work independently.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Comply with all customer rules and procedures at mining sites
Assist Explosives Controller with fault finding, troubleshooting, and maintenance of MMU plant and chassis
Assist Site Administrator in stock control
Load and unload MMU with correct raw materials
Unload raw materials such as emulsion matrix and expan tankers
Clean and decontaminate MMU
Identify and report abnormal conditions to Explosives Controller or Site Supervisor
Maintain proper housekeeping of MMU cab, chassis, and plant
Clean and dispose of raw material spills appropriately
Wear and maintain proper PPE at all times
Identify and manage workplace hazards using HIRAC and Risk Assessments
Understand emergency procedures and use of hand tools
Attend mine induction training and comply with health and safety standards
Coach and demonstrate proper product application practices
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12 (Matric)
1–2 years of experience in a mining or similar environment
Valid Code C driver’s license
Advantageous:
Blasting Assistant Certificate
Competency A Certificate
Key Competencies:
Ability to work independently
Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures
Good communication skills
Understanding of MMU operations and tools
Awareness of emergency protocols and mine health standards
