Job Description
The Diesel Technician is responsible for carrying out fault diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs on Volvo products. The role involves interpreting performance issues, using technical manuals for repairs, and maintaining high standards of workmanship in line with Volvo quality benchmarks. The technician must ensure effective breakdown response and accurate reporting. Adherence to safety regulations and ISO 9001 standards is a core aspect of the role.
The technician will also be expected to engage with drivers during breakdowns, accurately document diagnostic outcomes and repairs, and support excellent customer service through professional execution of duties.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct fault-finding and diagnose performance issues on Volvo products
Implement information and repair procedures based on Volvo manuals
Perform quality repairs and maintenance work to required standards
Deliver excellent customer service by following procedures and guidelines
Provide accurate and detailed reports on diagnostics, failures, and repairs
Handle breakdown situations, liaising with drivers and ensuring documentation is complete
Comply with ISO 9001 standards and other relevant safety regulations
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Matric/N3 Certificate
Trade Test Certificate as a Qualified Diesel Mechanic
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a dealership environment handling heavy commercial vehicles
Key Competencies:
Proficiency in using relevant diagnostic and measuring equipment
Technical ability to interpret and apply manual specifications
Good command of English (reading, writing, and speaking)
Basic computer literacy
Ability to work accurately and independently
