Job Description
The Evaporator Operator will oversee the control of chemical concentration systems using evaporators, ensuring all parameters such as pressure, temperature, and solution density conform to operational specifications. The role involves starting and monitoring pumps, adjusting feed valves, testing solutions for correct density, and ensuring that steam vapors do not contaminate subsequent effects. The candidate will also test steam condensate to detect contamination and may be required to operate from an instrumented control panel. This position is critical in supporting continuous, safe, and optimal production at the factory.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Start pumps and operate valves to allow entry of liquid solutions, steam, and cooling water into the system
Monitor pressure, temperature, and vacuum gauge readings to ensure compliance with operational specifications
Regulate feed valves to control the flow of solution and achieve desired concentration
Test concentrated solutions using hydrometers to confirm they meet required density levels
Inspect manometers and view sight glasses to ensure no steam vapor contamination between stages
Test steam condensate for signs of contamination using reagents
Operate equipment via an instrumented control board, if necessary

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Degree or Diploma in Chemical Engineering
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of falling film evaporator operations
Proficiency in computer applications relevant to industrial operations
Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
