Job Description
Reporting to the Transport Officer, the Driver ensures programme transport needs are met, operates vehicles safely, keeps accurate logs and fuel reports, performs daily checks and cleanliness, flags maintenance needs, and supports courier deliveries. The role also assists with basic upkeep of offices/staff houses when required, enters logbook data into ProFleet, and may work extra hours/weekends or outside normal duties during humanitarian responses.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Drive staff to field sites; meet all approved transport requests.
Keep sub-office travel board and vehicle request records updated.
Uphold safe driving practices; ensure all occupants follow safety procedures.
Conduct daily vehicle checks; keep vehicles clean and in good condition.
Maintain logbooks; compile monthly fuel consumption reports.
Enter vehicle data into ProFleet and submit on time.
Notify line manager of service/repair needs; follow up maintenance.
Perform courier deliveries as assigned.
Assist line manager with basic maintenance/upkeep of offices and international staff houses.
Adhere to Save the Children policies on safeguarding, integrity, health & safety, and equality.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum
Rwandan national with valid Category B & D driving licence.
Mechanic Certificate A2 (and/or related certificates).
At least secondary education and 5+ years professional driving experience.
Able to work long hours; basic English communication.
Desirable/Competencies
Physically fit.
Strong accountability, integrity and safety awareness.
Good record-keeping; attention to detail; teamwork and customer service.
Notes: Level 3 Child Safeguarding role (frequent/intensive contact with children). Zero tolerance for fraud/corruption; strict compliance with SCI policies. May vary hours and duties in major humanitarian emergencies.
