About the Programme
The Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) is a multi-stakeholder programme funded by the Royal Danish Embassy in Kampala. It aims to strengthen climate resilience and adaptive capacities among men, women, and youth in refugee-hosting and refugee communities. URRI promotes inclusive development that is environmentally sustainable and rooted in local needs across six districts: Terego, Madi-Okollo, Yumbe, Koboko, Obongi, and Moyo.
Purpose of the Role
The Climate & Environment Coordinator will play a key role within the URRI Programme Coordination Unit led by DRC. This position is responsible for enhancing climate adaptation strategies, improving environmental sustainability, and promoting regenerative resilience approaches throughout the consortium. The successful candidate will support programme design, technical training, and stakeholder engagement while contributing to consortium-wide learning and knowledge sharing.

How to Apply
1. Technical Support & Quality Assurance
Offer expert technical input to URRI consortium partners and stakeholders on climate adaptation, environmental protection, and regenerative practices.
Facilitate hands-on and virtual training sessions in areas such as:
Climate-smart agriculture
Permaculture
Groundwater recharge
Nature-based solutions
Circular and regenerative design
Assist in the development and refinement of project frameworks and results indicators related to climate and environmental goals.
Create and disseminate practical tools and resources to support climate resilience programming.
Identify and document best practices and innovations for wider replication and learning across URRI.
2. Learning, Resources & Collaboration
Establish and co-lead a Community of Practice among consortium partners to foster learning and collaboration on climate and environmental issues.
Maintain a vetted list of technical consultants and subject matter experts.
Support knowledge generation and evidence-building on climate resilience approaches.
Collaborate closely with the global environmental advisors supporting DRC’s Go Green initiative.
3. Strategic Engagement & Policy Support
Contribute to proposal development, donor engagement, and resource mobilization.
Represent the URRI programme in external technical and policy forums.
Support advocacy efforts aligned with climate adaptation and environmental sustainability.
Build and maintain partnerships that enhance learning, visibility, and impact of the climate-resilience components of URRI.
About You
To excel in this role, you should bring a solid background in climate adaptation and/or regenerative environmental practices, along with strong coordination, training, and technical advisory skills.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
A degree in environmental science, climate adaptation, natural resource management, or a closely related field.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in similar roles, especially in climate or environmental programming.
In-depth knowledge of climate issues and environmental dynamics in West Nile, Uganda.
Experience conducting climate risk assessments, and providing technical recommendations for resilience-building.
Ability to deliver technical training to diverse audiences.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.
Competent in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across organizations and districts.
Proven ability to work independently while contributing to a small and dynamic team.
Willingness to travel regularly within the West Nile region.
Demonstrated commitment to gender equity and inclusive development.
Experience in climate vulnerability assessments (CVAs), early warning systems, or forecast-based programming is a plus.
Familiarity with conflict-sensitive programming and participatory design methods.
Desired Attributes
Knowledge of local languages spoken in the programme districts is an advantage.
Experience engaging with donors and advocating for climate-related funding.
Strong commitment to ethical standards and accountability practices.
