Job Description
The Business Development Manager, reporting to the External Affairs & Partnerships Manager, will focus on identifying strategic partners, managing partner engagement, crafting proposals, analyzing market trends, and representing PLP in networking events. The role requires strategic thinking, excellent relationship management skills, and a deep understanding of Africa's tech and development landscapes.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Partnership Identification and Development:
Conduct funding needs assessments to identify resource gaps.
Research and establish connections with strategic partners.
Perform due diligence to align potential partners with PLP's mission.
Maintain effective communication and resolve partner queries promptly.
Partnership Engagement & Stewardship:
Develop customized partnership proposals and MOUs.
Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with partners.
Consistently engage and provide updates to partners on organizational matters.
Proposal Development and Pipeline Management:
Coordinate proposal crafting with cross-functional teams.
Manage a pipeline of potential partnerships, tracking progress and outcomes.
Set and achieve ambitious partnership targets.
Market Research and Analysis:
Identify trends, competitor activities, and partnership opportunities.
Provide strategic insights to leadership for market positioning.
Reporting and Performance Management:
Maintain records of business development activities and partnerships.
Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to partnerships.
Representation and Networking:
Represent PLP at events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
Serve as a spokesperson for partnership initiatives.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, International Relations, Education, or a related field.
Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Experience:
5-7 years in business development, sales, partnership management, or similar roles.
Proven success in securing strategic partnerships.
Competencies:
Strong understanding of Africa's business and socio-economic landscape.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Proficiency in CRM software and business development tools.
Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
