Job Purpose
ADRA Uganda is seeking a committed and hands-on Agronomist Assistant to support the implementation of sustainable agriculture activities under the RISE Project. The role is focused on improving food security, household resilience, and livelihoods among refugee and host communities through climate-smart agriculture practices and active beneficiary engagement.

How to Apply
1. Technical Field Support
Assist the Lead Agronomist and Project Coordinator in planning and executing agricultural activities.
Provide on-site guidance on improved agronomic techniques such as land preparation, crop selection, soil management, irrigation, and pest control.
Support the setup and monitoring of demonstration plots, Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and household kitchen gardens.
2. Training & Capacity Building
Facilitate training sessions for farmers on topics like climate-smart agriculture, crop diversification, post-harvest management, and agro-enterprise.
Work closely with Community-Based Facilitators and Lead Farmers to promote hands-on learning and knowledge sharing.
3. Input Distribution & Beneficiary Support
Assist in distributing seeds, tools, and other agricultural inputs to registered beneficiaries.
Monitor the utilization of inputs and gather feedback from farmers for continuous improvement.
4. Monitoring, Data Collection & Reporting
Conduct regular field visits to farming groups to track progress, collect data on yields, and identify challenges.
Maintain detailed records of beneficiaries, trainings, and outcomes aligned with project indicators.
Contribute to weekly/monthly reports, success stories, and learning documentation.
5. Community Engagement & Coordination
Mobilize and organize farmer groups, cooperatives, and savings groups.
Foster strong working relationships with local leaders, RWCs, OPM, UNHCR, and other stakeholders.
Represent ADRA in relevant sector coordination and technical meetings when required.
6. Cross-Sectoral Collaboration
Coordinate with RISE Project’s Environment and Energy teams to promote agroforestry, composting, and sustainable land use.
Support integration with other sectors such as protection, nutrition, and education, where relevant.
Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or related field.
1–2 years of relevant field experience in agricultural extension or similar roles, ideally in humanitarian or refugee settings.
Knowledge of climate-smart and sustainable agriculture practices.
Experience working with vulnerable populations, especially women and youth, is highly desirable.
Proficiency in local languages (e.g., Swahili, Kinyabwisha, Rutoro, Runyankore) is an advantage.
Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a collaborative mindset.
Core Competencies
Strong facilitation and community mobilization skills.
Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
Accurate data collection and basic reporting using digital or manual tools.
High integrity, accountability, and adaptability to field conditions.
Willingness to travel frequently within the settlement.
