Job Description
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end closings in line with IFRS and internal controls. The role includes preparing financial statements, managing tax obligations (e.g., VAT, NSSF, PAYE), assisting audits, and supporting cost monitoring across manufacturing operations. The position demands precision, adherence to financial policies, and the ability to generate audit-ready reports while using accounting software and ERP systems. The ideal candidate must uphold ethical standards and promote continuous improvement within the finance department.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable and receivable, and monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses to support decision-making and regulatory compliance.
Ensure timely processing of payments, payroll, and statutory deductions while ensuring tax compliance and adherence to internal policies.
Monitor transactions and assist in budget preparation, tracking, and cost analysis.
Coordinate and prepare documentation for internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to controls and audit readiness.
Support departmental reporting by providing timely and accurate financial data for strategic planning.
Assist in the implementation and optimization of accounting software and ERP systems to enhance reporting accuracy and workflow efficiency.
Maintain organized documentation for all financial transactions to support both internal use and regulatory inspections.
Ensure compliance with reporting timelines, external audit requirements, and data integrity standards.
Foster a culture of ethical financial management, continuous learning, and operational excellence within the finance team.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
A professional certification such as CPA (Uganda) or ACCA is highly desirable.
Experience and Competencies:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting, preferably within a manufacturing or GMP-regulated environment.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, tax compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness.
Familiarity with Uganda’s tax laws and statutory requirements.
Hands-on experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical, documentation, and organizational skills.
