Background

The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, is implementing the Mineral Regulation Infrastructure Project. This initiative aims to:

  • Increase the adoption and use of appropriate and affordable technology along the mineral value chain.

  • Strengthen the legal and regulatory framework as well as institutional capacity in line with Uganda's NDP IV goals.

The project addresses challenges such as:

  • Underreporting of mineral production

  • Low mineral value addition

  • Poor environmental practices in mining

  • Inadequate monitoring and inspection

To support project implementation, the Ministry is seeking to recruit qualified Ugandans for the following contract-based positions (1-year).


Metallurgist (2 Positions)

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development

Salary Scale: U4
Duty Station: Beneficiation Center
Reports To: Senior Chemist
Supervises: Laboratory Technicians

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct mineral beneficiation and value addition studies.

  • Investigate processing methods for mineral ores.

  • Assist in flow sheet design and pilot plant testing.

  • Ensure sample quality control and supervise preparation processes.

  • Contribute to reporting and evaluation of mineral processing methods.

  • Supervise and mentor laboratory staff.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
