Background
The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, is implementing the Mineral Regulation Infrastructure Project. This initiative aims to:
Increase the adoption and use of appropriate and affordable technology along the mineral value chain.
Strengthen the legal and regulatory framework as well as institutional capacity in line with Uganda's NDP IV goals.
The project addresses challenges such as:
Underreporting of mineral production
Low mineral value addition
Poor environmental practices in mining
Inadequate monitoring and inspection
To support project implementation, the Ministry is seeking to recruit qualified Ugandans for the following contract-based positions (1-year).
Metallurgist (2 Positions)
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development
Salary Scale: U4
Duty Station: Beneficiation Center
Reports To: Senior Chemist
Supervises: Laboratory Technicians
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct mineral beneficiation and value addition studies.
Investigate processing methods for mineral ores.
Assist in flow sheet design and pilot plant testing.
Ensure sample quality control and supervise preparation processes.
Contribute to reporting and evaluation of mineral processing methods.
Supervise and mentor laboratory staff.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Extractive Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Chemistry from a recognized institution.
