The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) was established under the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act and the Petroleum (Refining, Conversion, Transmission and Midstream Storage) Act, both of 2013, and incorporated under the Companies’ Act, 2012. It is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda.

Job Description
The Manager Social and Sustainability will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the company’s sustainability management strategy and plans. The role will involve coordinating sustainable organizational practices, leading stakeholder engagements, implementing social studies and mitigation measures, and ensuring effective community relations and livelihood restoration programs.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and implement the UNOC sustainability management strategy and plans in alignment with the company’s ESG program.
Coordinate and implement sustainable organizational practices and programs.
Define and execute land acquisition processes and livelihood restoration programs to meet international requirements.
Lead social studies and assessments, including social aspects of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and human rights impact assessments.
Integrate social mitigation measures into social management plans and contractor implementation strategies.
Implement the UNOC stakeholder engagement framework and community engagement strategy.
Develop strategies to engage with NGOs, civil society organizations, and key stakeholders.
Lead the development and execution of a social and environmental investment strategy.
Manage community relations, track and address community concerns, and resolve issues effectively.
Conduct research on emerging environmental sustainability issues and advise management accordingly.
Plan and participate in stakeholder engagements related to host communities.
Manage sustainability reporting processes, including annual and integrated reporting.
Develop awareness programs to educate employees and stakeholders on sustainability practices.
Establish partnerships with relevant stakeholders to support sustainability initiatives.
Develop community engagement plans, events, and sensitization campaigns.
Develop educational content for community sensitization and awareness.
Conduct impact and satisfaction surveys related to UNOC projects within host communities.
Procure expert consultancy services for socioeconomic studies and recommendations.
Monitor and evaluate the progress and effectiveness of social interventions and projects.
Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Social Sciences, Social Work and Social Administration, Sustainable Development, Community Development, or related disciplines from a recognized institution.
Professional qualification in a sustainability-related course or certification in environmental and social governance is required.
Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in a busy corporate environment, with at least four (4) years at a supervisory or team lead level.
Experience working with field construction contractors and field teams to meet social performance requirements.
Knowledge of the Oil & Gas Industry Value Chain is an added advantage.
Training in Program Monitoring & Implementation and Project Management is desirable.
Strategic thinking and planning.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Creative problem-solving abilities.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across functions and businesses.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Stakeholder and grievance management skills.
Social analysis and issue identification capabilities.

Monitoring and evaluation of social programs and initiatives.
