Tragic Loss: Rajiv Ruparelia Dies in Fatal Car Crash at Busabala Flyover

Uganda is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Rajiv Ruparelia, the 35-year-old son of billionaire businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, who died in a fatal car crash in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to a press statement issued by the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the accident occurred at approximately 1:54 AM on May 3, 2025, at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District. Rajiv was driving a white Nissan GTR, registration number UAT 638L, en route from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo when the tragic incident took place.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the vehicle lost control after colliding with temporary pavements set up at the roundabout section of the flyover. The powerful sports car overturned and subsequently caught fire, leading to Rajiv’s instantaneous death.
Police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident, but investigations are actively ongoing. Both SP Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, and Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire have assured the public that further details will be shared as they emerge.
