The NRM CEC Elections 2025 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds turned into the epicenter of political activity as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) held its highly anticipated National Delegates Conference. Delegates from across the country converged to elect party leaders who will steer the NRM into its next term.

Top Highlights of the NRM CEC Elections 2025
President Yoweri Museveni was endorsed unopposed as NRM National Chairperson.
Hajji Moses Kigongo retained his position unopposed as First National Vice Chairperson.
The most watched race between Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga ended with a landslide victory for Among, who garnered 11,680 votes against Kadaga’s 902 votes.
Regional Vice Chairperson Results in the NRM CEC Elections 2025
Western Region: Engineer Jonard Asiimwe won with 4,044 votes (58.9%), defeating State Minister for ICT Chris Baryomunsi (2,303 votes, 33.6%).
Eastern Region: Incumbent Mike Mukula stepped down and endorsed David Calvin Echodu, who was declared unopposed.
Buganda Region: After incumbents Godfrey Kiwanda, Eng. Joseph Sewava, and Hakim Kyeswa stepped aside, the race narrowed down to Fred Kalangwa and Haruna Kasolo. Kasolo emerged winner.
Northern Region: Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua defeated Sam Engola and Daniel Fred Kidega to secure victory.
Kampala Region: Kampala Mayor Salim Uhuru was declared the winner.
Karamoja Region: Lokii John Baptist secured the Vice Chairperson seat.
Other Key Outcomes from the NRM CEC Elections 2025
Ofwono Opondo, former government spokesperson, defeated incumbent minister Dominic Gidudu Mafabi to become the NRM flagbearer for MP (Older Persons, Eastern Region).
Gen Jim Muhwezi, Security Minister and Rukungiri NRM Chairperson, lost to Rtd Lt Moses Mushabe in the race for NRM Veterans League Chairperson.
Elections for the NRM Entrepreneurs League were suspended by President Museveni after allegations of bribery and irregularities in the contest between Hassan Basajjabalaba and Ceasar Mulenga.
