The Electoral Commission of Uganda has opened an extraordinary nationwide recruitment for 137,376 Polling Assistants to support the upcoming national elections. About the Role
Polling Assistants play a vital support role at polling stations. They work directly under the supervision of the Presiding Officer to ensure that all voting procedures are followed correctly and efficiently. Their work helps maintain order, accuracy, and transparency during the elections.
This position supports the management of four key categories of elections:
President and Members of Parliament
District/City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors
Municipality/City Division Chairpersons and Councillors
Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Polling Assistant, you will:
Report directly to the Presiding Officer.
Verify voters using:
The Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK)
The hard-copy Voters Register
Issue ballot papers to eligible voters.
Mark or dip voters’ fingers after ballot casting.
Assist the Presiding Officer in filling in election forms at the start and close of polling.
Support the overall management and order of the polling station.
Perform any additional duties assigned during the polling process.
This role requires accuracy, attentiveness, and professionalism, as you are the first point of contact for voters.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
To qualify for this role, applicants must have:
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
High moral character and demonstrated integrity.
Preferably residency within the polling station area.
Registration as a voter.
Election-related experience is an added advantage.
Age: 18 years and above.
Important: You must have a mobile-money registered phone number in your own names, matching your National ID, for e-cash payments.
