Job Summary:
RISU’s SEND Departments celebrate every child’s uniqueness with a dynamic team of specialists and Learning Support Assistants delivering targeted interventions. From Year 1 to Year 13, we offer personalised learning in both 1:1 and group settings, while collaborating with experts in Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, and Educational Psychology, we ensure every student gets the support they need to thrive.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational SENDCO who is committed to inclusion and has the desire to maintain the highest standards of provision for SEND students. You will be supporting students with their academic, personal, and social development. The successful applicant will take responsibility for SEND learning throughout both primary and secondary sections, including a satellite Early Years setting 6 km from the main site. We are looking for someone who will be able to effectively lead and manage the whole school SEND team and work closely with parents to ensure they are involved and informed of their child’s progress.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
B.Ed. / PGCE / QTS in the relevant subject area
SENDCO qualifications like The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCO) and the ASN/ SEN Learning Support Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) are an added advantage
A fully qualified graduate teacher with experience of acting as SENDCO or holds the National Award for SENDCO
Wide experience of working with pupils with a range of special educational needs
Excellent understanding of the SEND Code of Practice

Experience:
Should have a minimum of three years teaching experience, following the acquisition of a Bachelor of Education degree/PGCE/PGDE/QTS
Should have experience in the UK or overseas in a British curriculum school
Must have previous experience as a whole school (Primary & Secondary) SEN Coordinator, or have the experience to take this next step in your career
Experience and knowledge teaching students with special educational needs
A commitment to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children within the School and support of the School’s policies and procedures
Resilience and the ability to work well under pressure; ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively
A commitment to supporting the wider life of the school and boarding house
Attend and lead staff and departmental meetings, open days, briefings, assemblies, INSET days, parent consultations and other school events, as required
Collaborate with the class and subject teachers to ensure what is being learned in one to one lessons is transferred and reinforced in the classroom
Be able to coordinate and support education plans for students with SEN across Primary and Secondary
ASN/ SEN Learning Support Qualified Teaching Status (QTS)
Should have the ability to use SEN Assessment tools and writing related student reports
Ability to liaise with parents of children with Special Educational Needs
Advising fellow teachers on SEND best practices and strategies
Be a reflective, flexible practitioner with the ability to think creatively and take risks
Experience of managing therapists and counsellors
A working knowledge of Google Apps and the confidence to work with IT in the classroom
