Job Title: WASH Officer (Environment and Climate Action) – UN Jobs

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary:
The overall scope of work of the WASH Officer (Environment and Climate) is to contribute to the objective of UNICEF Uganda Country programme of strengthening the capacity of government, private sector, CBOs, NGOs, and young people to develop and accelerate the implementation of child-centered environment, climate and disaster risk reduction policies and actions. Under the supervision of the Chief WASH (Environment and Climate), the purpose of this position is to support the engagement of the country office in addressing environmental and climate related challenges in the social sectors that impact the lives of children and their caregivers. This will include developing appropriate technology and system strengthening measures for sustainable community services such as for schools, healthcare facilities, and water supply systems. This will demand evidence generation, planning and implementation of interventions, and the development of programmatic and policy guidance to address climate and environmental risks to children.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Minimum requirements:
Education: An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Civil/ Public Health Engineering, and/or Environmental Studies/ Management or another relevant technical field.
(While advanced university degrees for WASH positions are strongly preferable, a university degree in the relevant field, as stipulated above will be considered for this position)
Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/ supplement the main degree are required.
Work Experience: a minimum of two years of professional work experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
Desirables:
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
Experience in Environment and Climate Actions related programming in developing countries.
