Job Description

As a Virtual Bookkeeper with BELAY, you will work remotely with clients from various sectors, providing full-cycle bookkeeping services. You will be responsible for regular bill payments, bank reconciliations, budgeting, cash flow management, and preparing financial reports. You will also manage payroll processing, tax filings, e-commerce support, and chart of accounts maintenance. You will have the flexibility to choose how many clients and hours you want to take on, while benefiting from BELAY’s dedicated support system, a curated job board, community resources, and remote working tools.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Weekly bill payments for clients

  • Bank and credit/debit card reconciliations

  • Budget creation and monitoring

  • Cash flow management

  • Journal entries and coding of financial data

  • Preparation of weekly/monthly financial reports:

    • Balance Sheets

    • Profit & Loss Statements

    • Budget vs. Actuals

  • Manage and maintain Chart of Accounts

  • Prepare 1099s and process payroll (set-up, scheduling, and frequency)

  • File sales taxes as required

  • Provide e-commerce bookkeeping support

  • Communicate professionally with clients via phone, email, text, and video conferencing

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not required)

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting

  • Payroll processing experience

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred)

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Comfortable with remote work tools like Zoom and email platforms

  • Highly organized, responsive, and client-focused

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple clients independently

  • Must have a dedicated home office setup including:

    • Computer with webcam

    • Smartphone with email access and push notifications

    • High-speed internet connection
