Job Description
As a Security System Engineer, you will be responsible for applying cybersecurity best practices, particularly the NIST Risk Management Framework, to safeguard federal systems. You will monitor network activities, identify and resolve vulnerabilities, and manage Authority to Operate (ATO) security packages through eMASS. You will ensure continuous compliance by maintaining Plan of Action and Milestone (POA&M) documents, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and evaluating annual control validations. The role demands collaboration, technical acumen, and familiarity with secure system configuration and auditing protocols.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Apply the NIST Risk Management Framework to strengthen cybersecurity and compliance
Maintain and submit security packages via eMASS
Conduct annual evaluations and validations of controls
Prepare and update monthly POA&Ms for each ATO package
Monitor monthly vulnerability scans and reflect status in documentation
Develop and maintain SOPs for user account provisioning and security controls
Manage and monitor network defense tools including firewalls and VPNs
Detect and report abnormal system behaviors
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience
Minimum 12+ years of relevant experience
Ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/Public Trust clearance
Preferred:
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
Experience with the A&A process, including ATO package development
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools
Strong understanding of firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems
