Wheels for Humanity is founded as a grassroots effort collecting used wheelchairs in the United States, restoring them by hand to manufacturers’ standards, and then providing them during international service trips where professional occupational and physical therapists volunteer to individually fit people in need. Momentum Wheels for Humanity is seeking candidates for a Wheelchair Service Training Package (WSTP) Trainer for the USAID-funded Learning, Acting and Building for Rehabilitation in Health Systems (ReLAB-HS) project in Uganda. The WSTP Trainer Technician will be responsible for providing technical support to Momentum Wheels for Humanity on the implementation of based on the World Health Organization’s WSTP basic-level course.
Primary functions of the WSTP Trainer Technician include (i) Support the WSTP Trainer Clinician in the preparation of the technical delivery and materials of the training, (ii) delivering a three-day in-person training, and, (iii) Support the WSTP Trainer Clinician in producing a brief report on the training process with lessons learned and recommendation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Detailed Responsibilities
Consultant shall assume the following specific responsibilities for the length of the consultancy:
Task 1: Prepare the technical delivery and materials of WSTP training
Participate in the virtual meeting with AT Systems Strengthening Global Advisor, Uganda Assistive Technology Coordinator, WSTP Trainer Technician, and Uganda ReLAB-HS Country Team to prepare for the training
Review the WHO-WSTP materials
Develop agenda and training/facilitation plan for 3-day in-person WSTP training, including training materials
Task 2: Deliver the three-day in-person WSTP training
Lead the delivery of the training in an effective and efficient manner
As arise, flag any issues or provide recommendation to Uganda AT Coordinator and ReLAB-HS Uganda Country Team to improve the training process
Present at agreed time and location to adequately prepare for and deliver the training
Task 3: Produce a report on the training process with lessons learned and recommendation.
Develop a draft report on the training process with lessons learned and recommendation to be reviewed by AT Systems Strengthening Global Advisor and/or Uganda AT Coordinator
Produce the final report on the training
Qualifications and Competencies
Qualifications
Technical professional (e.g. wheelchair technician, orthopeadic technologist) who has been trained as a trainer (ToT) in the wheelchair service training package from the World Health Organization
