Job Description
Job Title: Training Controller - Site
Organisation: Nile Breweries Limited
Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
The key purpose is to focus on shop floor capability by supporting the SKAP process across the zone. This includes evaluating training effectiveness to ensure financial and time benefits. The role also supports Line and VPO in driving methods aligned with the VPO strategy and ensures efficient administration and planning of L&D interventions, from annual LNA processes to budget development and applying the 70/20/10 principle across all plants.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Initiate the training and development process
Get relevant input for training buckets, this is taken from Team room discussions, ITF, Annual Training Plan and all other problem-solving discussion (i.e.5Why’s, abnormality reports, walk abouts)
Collaborate with People Manager and BOP Training Specialist regarding activities on site
Engage with L&D Specialist regarding suitable solutions where the training solution does not exist/not part of the Annual Training Calendar
Consolidate departmental training needs by reviewing L&D inputs e.g., PDP as input to the annual LNA / budgeting process
Prepare for training
Coordinate the logistics of the required training and ensure relevant candidates are present and available
Request Purchase Order requests from the NOCC L&D Services team for external training as per the signed off LNA
Obtain approval from Zone L&D Specialist for costs not included in the LNA
Implement the learning process Effective use of SOP’s
Execution of the SOP’s are relevant and effective, use the as training aid), track and check whether people are people being trained against SOP, identify gaps in SOP and ensure Line Manager updates the SOP document)
Draw on the expertise of SME’s to run learning programmes
Ensure all training completed is captured in Training Bucket and registers are completed
Ensure all training registers and events are recorded via NOCC L&D Services
Adapt training programme to meet the needs of the team / plant / audience i.e. run 2-day programme over a two-week period with short intervals
Conducts a quality assurance of Visual Boards by engaging with Line Managers / HOD’s
Evaluate the effectiveness of training and develop ROI report
Complete the Level 1 evaluations for formal classroom training, analyse the results and develop actions that will improve training effectiveness
Monitor and Support SKAP
Assist Line Manager to develop annual SKAP plan for team
Monitor weekly / monthly adherence to plan
Support Line Manager to schedule formative and summative assessments
Identify SME Assessors and ensure an adequate pool of assessors in the plant
Administration of SKAP Management system by ensuring information is accurate (Line Manager captures the assessment result, TC quality assures)
Identify Training Solutions for future Pipeline
Trainees: Conduct monthly check in with trainee to identify opportunities for trainee to attend training as per the planned training bucket (Line Manager responsible to report on progress, driving the trainee programme progress)
Reporting
Ensure the relevant KPI’s are reported against weekly and monthly routines
Communicate and share with relevant stakeholders on site
VPO Support
Participation in Pillar meetings where applicable
KPI / PI cascade to the shopfloor
Ensure SDCA compliance
Attend and support problem solving initiatives by identifying coaching opportunities and training gaps
Assist and support teams through the facilitation of the cascading of the department strategy and KPI/PI’s
Develop agenda and schedule VPO training sessions for dept/site
VPO Routines
Post training provide the necessary coaching to Operators and Front Line Managers
Facilitate and assist in ATO and develop ATO boards where qualified to do so
Coach level 1 teams on effective problem solving techniques (5Why, Abnormality Report, ITF)
Plan OWD’s against SOP’s
Conduct OWD’s where qualified to do so
Ensure that the development of SOP’s by subject matter experts are continuously completed as per the VPO requirements and SOP’s SWI’s development process
Coach and train Level 1 employees against new and current SOP’s where the TC is a subject matter expert
Ensure Training support for VPO team day out by coaching L&D related items
Coaching and evaluation of visual management boards utilisation
Audit and health check OWS and AWS
Attend daily, weekly and monthly meetings as per MCRS
Attend PCM meeting where required
Support the Implementing of Autonomous Teams process
Track and monitor MCLs and SCLs
Coaching on People and Management Pillar Block and Tools
Coach shop Frontline by using documented business description and process maps
ATO (Preparedness, Implementation, Team Empowerment, Tools to complete ATO)

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Min – BSc/HND in Engineering or related discipline
3-5 years in a Brewery environment Knowledge of Performance management, L& D and SKAP practices including the evaluation of training
