Job Description
Aldelia Uganda, on behalf of its client, is seeking an experienced Timber Plantation Program Manager to provide operational and technical leadership for the establishment, management, and harvesting of timber plantations across designated forest zones in Uganda. The role oversees both native species plantations (aligned with carbon credit generation) and commercial timber species plantations, ensuring compliance with international silvicultural standards and carbon certification methodologies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead assessment, preparation, and planting design in designated timber plantation areas.
- Develop plantation establishment plans and oversee nursery sourcing and seedling procurement for both native and commercial species.
- Manage seasonal schedules to optimise survival rates and growth performance.
- Plan and implement planting programmes aligned with carbon certification methodologies.
- Work directly with the Carbon Manager to ensure planting data, survival rates, and biomass measurements are accurately captured for MRV purposes.
- Apply species-appropriate silvicultural practices that maximise sequestration potential and biodiversity value.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Team to select commercially viable timber species and implement rotation management plans, thinning programmes, and pruning schedules.
- Provide technical input into forward contract timelines and harvest volume projections.
- Manage field teams including plantation technicians, nursery workers, and field supervisors.
- Conduct regular field assessments to monitor plantation performance, survival rates, and ecological outcomes.
- Coordinate with Community Liaisons to integrate local communities into planting and maintenance activities.
- Produce periodic technical progress reports for internal management, investors, donors, and government stakeholders.
