Job Description
Job Title: Structure & Rotating Equipment Engineer

Location: Kampala, Uganda
Primary Role:
The Structure & Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for overseeing and ensuring quality compliance throughout the installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of structural and rotating equipment. The role also includes technical support, inspection, and verification to ensure all engineering activities meet regulatory and safety standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Participate in the preparation of Verification & Control Activity Reports (VCAR), including defining scopes of work and budgeting for structure and rotating equipment audits.
Conduct inspections during installation and commissioning phases as per approved procedures when required.
Provide technical expertise in areas such as:
Pressure vessel and casting design
Bearing and lubrication systems
Rotor dynamics and vibration analysis
Seals and shutdown/start-up systems
Support documentation review for procurement inquiries and ensure alignment with technical specifications.
Provide technical assistance to the certification team, including participation in risk assessments, design reviews, constructability assessments, and HAZOP studies.
Offer on-site support during inspection and construction phases.
Oversee and support installation and commissioning activities for rotating equipment.
Ensure maintenance of test equipment and that proper safety measures are in place.
Conduct technical audits on projects and performance reviews of engineering team members.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering and design.
At least 3 similar roles in international projects involving rotating equipment and structure installation.
Certifications & Knowledge:
Registered Supervision Engineer Certificate or equivalent is required.
In-depth understanding of:
Pressure vessel design and mechanical stress analysis
Shaft couplings and connection methods
Critical speeds and dynamic balancing techniques
Vibration diagnostics and predictive maintenance strategies
Strong knowledge of safety regulations within the oil & gas or energy industry.
Familiarity with various balancing grades and shaft alignment techniques.
Skills & Capabilities:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience in implementing predictive maintenance programs and managing associated change processes.
Ability to analyze technical reports and verify compliance with approved procedures.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
Physically fit and in good health for field assignments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software (AutoCAD or equivalent).
Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
Other Desirable Attributes:
Experience conducting performance evaluations and mentoring engineering staff.
Strong executive presence, strategic thinking, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proven track record of working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary, multicultural teams.
