Job Description
Job Title: Specialist -Temporary Tools & Application Support
Organisation: MTN Uganda
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Senior Specialist – System Administration
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Install, maintain and troubleshoot Linux operating systems in virtual, physical, and cloud environments.
Performed all aspects of database administration including installs, builds, upgrades, object sizing, object creation, users, backup/recovery, patches, monitoring, export/imports and SQL loader.
Implement Installation/Configuration of Data Guard Broker and testing all Failover scenarios.
Ensure data quality and integrity for MAPS reporting, Asset and NIM tools.
Develop reports and dashboard for KPIs are requested by the end-consumer.
Create managed objects and KPI are desired.
Performance tuning of Linux application, oracle database and database servers.
Employ automation tools for deploying software, patching servers, and installing operating systems.
Monitor system and device activity for performance, identification of system problems, and inappropriate usage.
Monitor and maintain databases such as: Oracle, MySQL, and SQL.
Secure Linux Systems against network attacks and vulnerabilities.
Coordinate system security activities including password reset and controlling user access control.
Coordinate disaster recovery support.
Resolve Linux system and software failures.
Investigation & troubleshooting of issues reported by customers/partners and internal users
Ensure inhouse network application such EIR GUI, LBS GUI, PMS and Overtime tool are functioning as expected.
Develop and deploy scripts for automating tasks in Linux and Windows platform.
Develop and deploy application for in-house usage.
Monitor and maintain OSS Tools like (ENM, U2020, UME, NCE, PMS, MAPS, TEMP, SIGOS, ASSET planning and NIM)
Engage with external customer and internal service delivery team to gather new requirements
Other duties as required
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Electrical/Telecom Engineering, or related field
Unix/Solaris/Linux and Database Administration and Programming.
Proficiency with at least two of the following programming languages: SQL, PL/SQL, Perl, PHP, Java, Python, PowerShell, or Bash/Korn scripting.
Sound understanding of ITIL standards and best practices within operational environments
Work Experience
2 years’ experience in Mobile GSM Network Environment
At two (2) years’ experience working as either System administrator or database administrator or both.
Good Analytical and Troubleshooting skills
Competence with Oracle/ MySQL Databases.
Proficiency in UNIX and LINUX operating systems.
Very good programming/scripting skills
Skills / physical competencies:
Ability to work on multiple tasks, often with conflicting objectives and competing deadlines.
Analytical skills
Business acumen – un understanding of the business as a whole.
Change management skills.
