As part of our mission to ensure a safe, compliant, and high-performance work environment, we’re seeking a qualified and motivated SHEQ Officer to join our team in Uganda.

Role Summary

The SHEQ Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) systems across DHL sites in Uganda. The role involves ensuring legal compliance, conducting inspections and audits, managing risks, driving continuous improvement, and leading health and safety initiatives to protect employees, assets, and the environment.

How to Apply

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) laws and internal standards.

  • Conduct regular site inspections, lead or support incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.

  • Develop and maintain SHEQ policies and procedures aligned with legislation and industry best practices.

  • Advise management on emerging HSE regulations and generate action plans to ensure full compliance.

  • Plan and conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and SHEQ system reviews in accordance with ISO standards.

  • Provide technical support and coaching to managers and teams on HSE best practices and safe systems of work.

  • Oversee physical security measures for sites, assets, and customer goods in coordination with internal teams.

  • Manage vendor and supplier compliance, propose and implement improvements where necessary.

  • Support customer requirements and address or escalate SHEQ concerns, maintaining service excellence.

  • Promote employee engagement through SHEQ communication, training, and participation in CSR and sustainability initiatives.

  • Monitor and report on SHEQ KPIs and lead national site audits in collaboration with site managers.

  • Identify training needs, manage associated budgets, and ensure staff are informed of changing SHEQ regulations.

  • Drive operational excellence through GEMBA walks, audits, action plans, and ongoing improvement initiatives.

  • Lead sustainability efforts, including recycling, pollution control, and environmental awareness campaigns.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant SHEQ experience in a logistics, industrial, or related environment.

  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, ISO 45001/14001/9001 Lead Auditor are required.

  • Additional qualifications in Quality Management Systems or Risk Management are an added advantage.
