DAT(Digital Adherence MDR-TB) Nurse Job at Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI)

Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI)

Job Description

The Digital Adherence Technology (DAT) Nurse provides direct support to TB patients enrolled on digital adherence tools such as smart pillboxes and Video DOT. The role involves daily monitoring of adherence dashboards, timely follow-up of missed doses, providing patient-centred adherence counselling, troubleshooting DAT challenges faced by patients, and documenting all patient interactions. The DAT Nurse works closely with facility and community teams to improve treatment adherence, retention, and overall TB treatment outcomes.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Monitor adherence dashboards daily for all patients using DAT tools, including smart pillboxes, vDOT platforms, or other digital systems.
  • Identify patients with missed doses or inconsistent dosing patterns and initiate prompt follow-up through calls, messaging, or in-person visits.
  • Provide structured adherence counselling at treatment initiation, during follow-up, and whenever adherence concerns arise.
  • Support patients to use DAT tools correctly and troubleshoot issues related to connectivity, charging, or device handling.
  • Document all follow-ups, counselling sessions, challenges, and actions taken in DAT registers, patient files, and digital platforms.
  • Maintain updated patient adherence logs and contribute to weekly and monthly DAT performance reports.
  • Work closely with TB focal persons, linkage facilitators, and community health workers to ensure seamless follow-up for patients unreachable through digital means.
  • Participate in case review discussions for patients experiencing persistent adherence challenges or risk of treatment interruption.
  • Coordinate retrieval, replacement, or maintenance of DAT devices and ensure proper accountability for project tools.
  • Support training and orientation of facility staff and community teams on DAT use, adherence counselling, and dashboard interpretation.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities aimed at improving adherence and treatment outcomes.
  • Ensure confidentiality, respectful care, and ethical handling of patient information, including digital records.
  • Support linkage to psychosocial, nutritional, or social support services for patients facing adherence barriers.
  • Contribute to facility and community based activities such as contact tracing, patient follow-up, and health education where applicable.
  • Perform any other duties assigned to strengthen TB adherence monitoring and patient support systems.
