Job Description
The SHEQ Manager will report to the Operations/Plant Manager and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining integrated systems for Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality within the manufacturing facility. This includes creating workplace policies, overseeing environmental compliance, promoting employee wellbeing, ensuring product quality, and aligning with national and international standards such as ISO 9001. The role also involves investigating incidents, conducting audits, facilitating training, and promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and enforce SHEQ policies and procedures across operations
Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis; implement corrective actions
Investigate incidents and lead root cause analysis with follow-up reporting
Provide safety training, toolbox talks, and staff inductions
Monitor occupational health risks and employee wellbeing programs
Ensure emergency response systems and first aid are in place
Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
Implement and manage the Quality Management System
Lead certification maintenance (e.g., ISO, GMP)
Conduct environmental audits and resource efficiency planning
Lead internal and external audit preparations and reporting
Engage stakeholders, regulators, and certification bodies on SHEQ matters
Oversee product quality control from raw materials to finished goods
Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices
Monitor and manage calibration of testing equipment and instruments
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, or a related field
Master’s Degree is an added advantage
Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, ISO) preferred
6–8 years of experience in a similar SHEQ or EHS role within manufacturing
Strong knowledge of Ugandan HSE legal frameworks and regulations
Experience in implementing or auditing ISO Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and computer skills
Ability to lead and influence safety culture across departments
