Job Description
Job Title: Safety Officers (Social) (Several Jobs)
Organisation: Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
To ensure the implementation and management of social safety standards and practices within the electricity distribution network. The Safety Officer (Social) focuses on addressing community and workforce social safety concerns, promoting harmonious relationships, and mitigating social risks associated with operations and projects.
Impact
The role holder plays a key role in fostering a socially responsible operational environment, enhancing community relations, and ensuring compliance with social safety standards and regulations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Awareness
Develop and implement community safety awareness programs related to electricity distribution.
Facilitate communication between the company and affected communities to address social safety concerns.
Social Risk Assessment and Mitigation
Conduct social risk assessments to identify potential impacts on communities and propose mitigation measures.
Develop strategies to address issues such as displacement, resettlement, and compensation in line with company policies.
Compliance and Standards
Ensure adherence to social safety standards, including national regulations and international best practices.
Monitor and report on compliance with social impact mitigation plans.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
Investigate social incidents or grievances and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain records of incidents and provide periodic reports to management.
Training and Capacity Building
Organize and deliver training programs for staff and contractors on social safety topics.
Build capacity within communities to understand and address electricity-related social safety issues.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Collaborate with local authorities, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to promote social safety initiatives.
Represent the company in public forums and discussions on social safety concerns.
Emergency Response and Support
Participate in the development of emergency response plans with a focus on social dimensions.
Support affected communities during emergencies to ensure safety and well-being.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for enhancing social safety practices and propose innovative solutions.
Stay updated on developments in social safety standards and integrate them into company policies.
Other Duties
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Safety Manager or relevant authority.
