Position Overview
Old Mutual Uganda is looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Underwriter – UIC Medical to manage and oversee the underwriting process for medical insurance products. The ideal candidate will evaluate medical risks, ensure compliance with underwriting policies, support client retention, and contribute to service excellence through effective risk assessment and documentation.

How to Apply
Underwriting & Risk Assessment
Evaluate, assess, and manage medical underwriting risks in accordance with company policies and industry best practices.
Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, including pricing, policy wordings, and reinsurance terms.
Review and approve underwriting documents, premium computations, and invoices for pre-rated products.
Set up new medical schemes, including preparation of contract files, member lists, and payment follow-ups.
Client & Intermediary Engagement
Respond to client and intermediary inquiries and complaints within the service charter timelines.
Conduct regular client and intermediary visits to foster strong business relationships.
Issue timely renewal notices and follow up to ensure policy retention.
Provide exceptional service and maintain a professional approach in all interactions.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure complete and accurate documentation for all underwriting activities.
Implement and enforce credit control policies, including issuing credit notes and managing receivables.
Monitor compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, AML (Anti-Money Laundering), Sanctions, and KYC (Know Your Customer) standards.
Maintain and manage accountable documents in EDMS (Electronic Document Management System).
Team Supervision & Support
Supervise, mentor, and train underwriting assistants to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Collaborate with claims and credit control teams to ensure seamless service delivery to clients.
Support day-to-day operational needs across underwriting, claims, and credit control functions.
Reporting & Analytics
Prepare and submit underwriting departmental reports, including monthly performance summaries.
Provide insights and recommendations based on underwriting trends, customer feedback, and portfolio performance.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field (required)
Diploma in Insurance (required)
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of underwriting processes, credit control, and claims support
Familiarity with compliance standards including KYC, AML, and sanctions policies
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
