Job Description
The ideal candidate will offer expert advice on complex tax issues, create and implement tax strategies, and ensure all filings are completed accurately and timely. Responsibilities include preparing tax provisions, handling VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT, and ensuring timely tax payments. The role also involves mentoring junior staff, managing tax audits, and maintaining productive relationships with tax authorities. The candidate must communicate effectively with both tax and non-tax professionals, and identify tax savings opportunities, particularly in asset acquisition scenarios.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Advise clients and internal teams on complex tax issues
Devise and implement effective tax planning and management strategies
Ensure timely filing and remittance of all statutory taxes
Handle technical reviews and approvals of tax returns
Develop and maintain professional client relationships
Generate business opportunities within and outside the client base
Represent clients during tax audits and inquiries
Prepare and update tax provision schedules
Coordinate tax audits and respond to tax authorities’ queries
Ensure accurate deduction and prompt remittance of all statutory deductions
Support preparation of regulatory reports to government agencies
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Tax
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years technical tax experience in public accounting or advisory firms
Proven experience with Corporate Income Tax (mandatory)
Experience in handling tax controversies with authorities
CIT certification is required
Knowledge of international taxes is an added advantage
Skills and Competencies:
In-depth knowledge of VAT, PIT, WHT, PAYE, and other tax legislation
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Proficient in stakeholder/relationship management
Business and commercial acumen
Risk management and internal control expertise
Strategic thinking and problem-solving
Financial intermediation skills
Ability to manage complexity and promote innovation
