Job Description
Job Title: Senior Planning and Research Officer
Organisation: Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA)
Department: Strategy & Market Development
Level: IRA 3
Duty Station: Head Office, Kampala
Reports To: Manager – Planning & Research
Supervises: Risk and Actuarial Officer
The Senior Planning Officer is responsible for coordinating and harmonizing planning activities within the Authority and the insurance industry. This role involves designing insurance market studies, compiling data, generating reports, and monitoring and evaluating industry plans in line with approved policies and procedures
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Planning:
Develop, monitor, and evaluate IRA's strategic and operational plans in a timely manner.
Review and monitor the implementation of departmental and industry plans, providing recommendations for improvement.
Data Collection & Analysis:
Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to the insurance industry.
Undertake research and market surveys to develop a strong understanding of market trends.
Economic Monitoring:
Track fundamental economic and strategic developments in both local and international economies that impact the insurance sector.
Support Functions:
Assist in the day-to-day operations of Market Research & Development.
Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Timely development and implementation of strategic and operational plans.
Effective monitoring and evaluation of departmental and industry plans.
Quality and accuracy of data analysis and reporting.
Contribution to the development of a strong understanding of market trends.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Statistics, Economics, or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
A Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is an added advantage.
Experience:
At least five years of research, planning, and managerial experience in a reputable organization.

Technical Skills:
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proficiency in research and planning methodologies.
Excellent report writing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Behavioral Skills:
Ability to make objective decisions.
