The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

How to Apply
Assist in the development and implementation of work plans and budgets related to environment and social assessments.
Conduct Environment and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and Strategic Environment Assessments (SEAs).
Advise the supervisor on procedures, guidelines, and protocols for conducting and reviewing ESIAs.
Support the Authority’s role as the lead agency in the review of ESIAs.
Facilitate capacity building initiatives for ESIA across various levels in Uganda.
Contribute to the development of national policy guidelines for ESIAs and SEAs.
Aid in the development and management of an ESIA and SEA information system, integrated within the overall Environment Information Management System.
Promote applied research on best environmental practices.
Supervise and appraise assigned staff.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Environment and Natural Resources Management, Natural Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Master’s Degree in Environment and Natural Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplines.
Training in Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).
Training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in environment and social assessments within a reputable organization.
Skills and Competencies
Leadership, team building, and supervisory capabilities.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of conservation planning and mitigation hierarchy.
Excellent scholarly writing, publication, analytical, and presentation skills.
Financial and human resource management expertise.
Competency in report writing and resource mobilization.
Risk management abilities.
Proficiency in information and communication technology (ICT).
