Job Description

Job Title:  Science Officer (Research Registration and Clearance)

Organisation:  Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST)

Duty Station:  Kampala, Uganda

The Science Officer (Research Registration and Clearance) provides assistance in the clearance of study protocols submitted to UNCST, and issuance of a research permits in accordance with the National Research Guidelines and applicable laws related to research regulations.

  • Real time completeness check of study protocols and assign them to the respective personnel for further actions;

  • Track all study protocols submitted and regularly update Principal Investigators on their progress;

  • Assist in tracking study expiry and send out reminders to Principal Investigators for their action;

  • Compile documentation of registered studies to be submitted to the Research Secretariat for Clearance;

  • Dispatch Research permits from the Office of the President to the respective Principal Investigators;

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Humanities and social sciences, Statistics, physical or life sciences, Public Health, Environmental Science or any related field;

  • Training in Research ethics is an added advantage;

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the same or a similar field;

  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders;

  • Computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and database management skills;

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;

  • Not more than 35 years of age.
