Job Description
The Sales Manager will lead the Marketing and Research department’s sales function by developing and executing effective sales strategies and plans, forecasting sales, monitoring performance, and identifying new opportunities. The role involves managing and mentoring the sales team, building and maintaining strong relationships with key customers, providing input on promotional activities, and supporting tender bids. The incumbent will be responsible for gathering and reporting competitive intelligence, improving customer satisfaction, overseeing distribution channels, and ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic goals. Additionally, the role carries full accountability for departmental people management, budget control, and compliance with NBI’s HR, transformation, and EE frameworks.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Sales Management: Develop and execute sales plans and campaigns, monitor sales performance against forecasts, and implement corrective actions.
Sales Activity Management: Recruit, coach, and manage the sales team; allocate territories; track performance; and provide on-the-ground support.
Customer Relations: Manage key customer relationships, resolve queries and complaints, and ensure continuous improvement in customer satisfaction.
Product & Market Knowledge: Stay updated on industry trends, competitor activity, and therapeutic developments; maintain a competitive intelligence database.
People Management: Lead departmental staff, set performance objectives, manage misconduct, promote employee engagement, and ensure training and development.
Budget & Resource Management: Prepare departmental budgets, monitor expenditure, and ensure financial compliance.
Stakeholder Engagement: Provide input into promotional activities, tender processes, and cross-departmental collaborations.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements
Health Science Degree or Diploma.
Marketing or Sales Degree or Diploma.
Minimum 6 years’ experience in pharmaceutical sales.
Minimum 3 years’ management experience in leading, mentoring, and coaching sales teams across private and state healthcare sectors.
