Job Description
The Sales & Business Growth Executive is responsible for end-to-end merchant lifecycle management — from acquisition and onboarding to activation, retention, and revenue growth. The role ensures merchants are not only onboarded but actively transacting and growing in value.
Note: The Sales & Business Growth Executive reports to the Chief Business Officer in absence of a Business Development Manager
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Customer Acquisition & Sales
- Identify and onboard high-potential merchants aligned to revenue targets
- Build and manage a structured pipeline based on expected transaction value
- Negotiate and close commercial agreements in line with company policies
- Achieve or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets
Market Research & Prospecting
- Conduct market research to identify new sectors, opportunities, and customer needs
- Continuously prospect through field visits, networking, referrals, and partnerships
- Analyse competitor offerings and pricing to inform sales strategy
- Provide market intelligence and insights to management
Merchant Activation & Usage
- Drive first transaction within defined timelines (48-72 hours)
- Ensure full merchant setup and onboarding
- Convert inactive merchants into active transacting users
- Track and improve merchant activation rates
Relationship Management & Retention
- Own and manage a portfolio of merchants
- Maintain regular engagement and follow-ups
- Act as the primary point of contact for merchants
- Resolve merchant issues through internal coordination
Revenue Growth & Account Expansion
- Drive transaction growth (TPV) per merchant
- Upsell and cross-sell relevant products and services
- Identify sector-based growth opportunities
- Increase merchant contribution to overall revenue
Reporting & Performance Tracking
- Maintain accurate CRM pipeline and reporting
- Provide weekly insights on performance and blockers
- Track activation, retention, and revenue metrics
- Ensure data accuracy and timely reporting
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Work closely with product, operations, and marketing teams
- Escalate and follow through on critical issues affecting merchants
- Provide feedback on product improvements and customer needs
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Activation Rate (%)
- Active Merchant Rate (%)
- Average TPV per Merchant
- Revenue per Merchant
- Merchant Retention Rate
- Pipeline Conversion Rate
- Time to First Transaction
- Number of High-Value Merchants Acquired
