Lira University is one of the public Universities in Uganda. It started as a Constituent College of Gulu University in 2009 and attained autonomy as a fully-fledged Public University through an Act Parliament under Statutory Instrument 2015 No. 35 on the 16th July, 2015.
It was established on a niche of training students in Health Sciences. It has the first University Teaching Hospital in Uganda.

Lira University is a Public University pursuant to Statutory Instrument No. 35 of 16 July 2015 under The University's and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended 2006). Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested candidates for the following post.
Greeting Visitors: Welcome visitors and clients warmly, and direct them to the appropriate person or department. Ensure they feel comfortable while waiting.
Answering and Routing Phone Calls: Handle incoming phone calls promptly and professionally. Transfer calls to the appropriate personnel or department, and take messages when necessary.
Managing Appointments: Schedule, confirm, and cancel appointments or meetings for staff and clients. Maintain and update the appointment calendar.
Handling Inquiries: Respond to general inquiries from visitors, clients, and employees in person, over the phone, or via email. Provide accurate information about the organization’s services, policies, and procedures.
Maintaining Reception Area: Keep the reception area clean, organized, and welcoming. Ensure that all promotional materials, magazines, and other resources are up to date.
Administrative Support: Perform various clerical duties such as filing, data entry, photocopying, faxing, and mailing. Assist other departments with administrative tasks as needed.
Receiving and Distributing Mail: Sort and distribute incoming mail and deliveries. Prepare outgoing mail and packages.
Security and Visitor Management: Monitor access to the premises by maintaining visitor logs, issuing visitor badges, and ensuring all visitors follow security protocols.
Assisting with Office Supplies: Keep track of office supplies inventory and coordinate with the office manager or appropriate personnel to order new supplies as needed.
Coordinating Meeting Rooms: Manage the booking and preparation of meeting rooms, ensuring they are ready for use with necessary equipment and materials.
Supporting Event Coordination: Assist with organizing and coordinating company events, meetings, and other functions as required.
Handling Emergencies: Respond appropriately to emergencies by following the organization's procedures, including contacting security or emergency services.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with post-secondary education in office administration or a related field.
Experience: Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role is often preferred. Experience as a receptionist, administrative assistant, or in a similar position is beneficial.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with visitors, clients, and staff professionally and courteously.
Customer Service Skills: Strong customer service skills, including patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, are crucial for providing a positive experience for visitors and callers.
Organizational Skills: Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain a tidy and efficient reception area.
Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in using office software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with telephone systems, email, and scheduling software.
Multitasking Abilities: Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively in a busy environment.
Professional Appearance and Demeanor: A professional appearance and demeanor are important, as the receptionist often represents the company’s image to the public.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to accurately record messages, schedule appointments, and manage visitor logs.
Reliability and Punctuality: Dependability and punctuality are crucial, as receptionists are often the first point of contact and need to be present to manage the front desk.
Problem-Solving Skills: Basic problem-solving skills to handle unexpected issues, such as equipment malfunctions or scheduling conflicts, and to provide solutions.
Flexibility: Flexibility to adapt to different tasks and changing environments, especially in a fast-paced setting.
