The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Summary
NEMA is seeking qualified, committed, and physically fit individuals to join our team as Rangers. The primary role is to support field patrols and enforcement operations aimed at protecting Uganda’s environment from degradation and illegal activities.

How to Apply
Monitor, detect, and proactively prevent environmental crimes.
Participate in the arrest, search, and support prosecution of suspects involved in environmental offenses.
Protect natural resources, NEMA property, personnel, and visitors within areas of deployment.
Patrol and monitor critical ecosystems to prevent encroachment and degradation.
Support environmental inspections and monitoring tasks as assigned.
Assist with field data collection to inform management decisions.
Operate communication equipment (e.g., radio) and disseminate information to relevant stakeholders.
Gather and share field intelligence with appropriate teams.
Participate in environmental awareness and community education activities.
Prepare and submit field operation reports.
Perform any other official duties assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications
Academic: Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least a credit in English and Mathematics at Ordinary Level.
Age: Applicants must be 25 years or younger.
Required Competencies
Excellent physical and medical fitness
Ability to work under demanding field conditions
High integrity and a strong sense of accountability
Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
Effective time management skills
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
Be Ugandan citizens with a valid National Identity Card.
Be in good health and physically fit, ready to undergo fitness assessments, including medical checks and endurance tests.
Have no criminal record.
Be willing and ready to undergo paramilitary training.
Submit genuine documents—presentation of falsified information will lead to prosecution.
